ADAM19 유전자는 ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain) 패밀리 구성원을 암호화합니다. 이 패밀리 구성원은 뱀 독 디스인테그린과 구조적으로 관련 있으며, 수정, 근육 발달, 신경 발생을 포함한 세포-세포 및 세포-기질 상호작용과 관련된 다양한 생물학적 과정에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. ADAM19는 제1형 막 관통 단백질이며 수지상 세포 분화의 표지자로 기능합니다. 또한 세포 이동, 세포 부착, 세포-세포 및 세포-기질 상호작용, 신호 전달과 같은 정상적인 생리 과정에 관여할 수 있는 활성 금속단백질분해효소(metalloproteinase)로 입증되었습니다. 암, 염증 질환, 신장 질환, 알츠하이머병과 같은 병리학적 과정에도 역할을 할 것으로 제안됩니다.
