유전자 개요
이 유전자는 긴사슬 지방산-조효소 A 연결효소(long-chain fatty-acid-coenzyme A ligase) 계열의 아이소효소(isozyme)를 암호화한다. 이 계열의 모든 아이소효소는 서로 다른 기질 특이성, 세포 소기관 위치, 조직 분포를 보이지만, 유리된 긴사슬 지방산을 지방산 아실-CoA 에스터로 전환하여 지질 생합성 및 지방산 분해에 핵심적인 역할을 수행한다. 해당 아이소효소는 특히 아라키돈산(arachidonate)을 기질로 사용한다. 이 효소의 결핍은 인지 장애 또는 알포트 증후군(Alport syndrome)에 기여할 수 있다. 이 유전자의 대안적 스플라이싱(alternative splicing)은 여러 전사체 변이체를 생성한다.
