ABCC2는 세포 내외 막을 가로질러 다양한 분자를 수송하는 ATP 결합 카세트(ATP-binding cassette, ABC) 수송체 슈퍼패밀리(superfamily) 중 다제내성에 관여하는 MRP 서브패밀리(subfamily)에 속하는 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 단백질은 간세포(hepatocyte)의 담세관(canalicular) 첨단부에 발현되어 담즙 수송을 담당하며, 빈블라스틴(vinblastine)과 같은 항암제를 기질로 삼아 포유류 세포의 약물 내성에 기여하는 것으로 보인다. 또한 이 유전자의 여러 돌연변이는 결합형 고빌리루빈혈증(conjugated hyperbilirubinemia)을 특징으로 하는 상염색체 열성 질환인 듀빈-존슨 증후군(Dubin-Johnson syndrome, DJS) 환자에서 관찰되었다.
